“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.” – 1 Corinthians 13:1
If love is not a motivating factor in all that you do, then you need to step back and re-evaluate what you are doing. Does that sting a little? If it doesn’t maybe you’re more perfect than I. If God is love, then for those of us who have chosen to follow Him, shouldn’t that be our defining characteristic too?
Love should define our marriage, in all its interactions. – “Ok…”
Love should define our friendships. – “That works…”
Love should define our work environment. – “Ouch.”
Love should define our duties, chores, labors, and tasks.- “Seriously?”
Love should be the way we respond to critics and those who are anything but nice to us… – “Don’t you think that’s going too far?”
Jesus responded out of love to everyone from Judas to the men who drove the nails into His hands for His execution. We are called to follow Christ, even to follow Him in the way He loves.
I love what Paul says about love. If we don’t have it, then all we say and do is like a clanking symbol, like beating a pot with a spoon. In one word we are ANNOYING! If we live our lives as Christians and do not engage the world and all its people out of love, all we are is noise, annoying, background noise.
There is too much clanking going on in the world. Let’s not be apart of it! Let love govern your interactions from now on…
