“God loves me.” One might rattle off this phrase like a phone number. Though truth lies within this these three little words, in today’s culture, a sense of entitlement weaves its way into this profound statement. We treat it as if God owes us His love. But since becoming a step-father, I now see God’s love with different eyes. Love chooses. I chose my wife as I chose my step-daughters. With full knowledge of my decision, I said “I do,” affirming both my love toward my wife and my commitment to loving these two girls as my own. God chooses too. His love reveals itself not through obligation but through choice, His choice of a rugged cross. God loves us like a good step-father, grafting us into His family, with full understanding of His decision.
“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.” – John 15:13, 16 NKJV
He knows you with all your faults and failures and still chooses to love you… Delight in the fact that you have been chosen; now how will you respond?
