Are you in need of prayer? If you are like most people, you probably need a lot of prayer! But for most people, I have found, they are either too embarrassed, too prideful, or too afraid to ask someone else to pray for them. Or even worse yet, they are too oblivious to things in their own life to even recognize that they need prayer. But can we not sit up, pay attention, swallow our pride, and say, “PLEASE pray for me!”?
A friend of mine has taught me so much about prayer in the past year. He is one that will stop me on the sidewalk and ask how I am doing. I used to be very uncomfortable with this and I would just brush him off with an “I’m fine.” But this friend wouldn’t accept the usual trite response, he would ask me again, “How are you really doing?” I would then inevitably spill my guts to him and he would then pray for me right then and there on the sidewalk! Though it was uncomfortable the first time or two, after that I began to look forward to seeing this friend because not only would he call my bluff, but he cared enough about me to take my concerns and needs to God with me, interceding for me while comforting me in the process.
Another friend of mine came to visit me recently here at seminary. His name is Zack and He too was struck with similar experiences with prayer while here staying with me. Since then God has placed on his heart to take a day to just pray. Not to just pray about large things like world peace and global hunger, but to pray for the hurt and broken people he knows personally and for friends of those he knows. He has in the past few weeks gathered a notepad full of prayer requests to lift up to God on November 15, 2010. But he still is looking to pray for more people… I plan on hopefully spending a few hours that day in prayer because I am seeing the needs of the community of readers and viewers to this blog.
So are you in need of prayer? You might say, “Nah, I’m fine.” So I will ask again, are you in need of prayer? Zack and I would like to pray for you! You can write us your story, or just send us your name and say “please pray for me.” But either way, don’t hold back. We really would like to pray for you! Just follow this link and fill out the contact form so that we get all the requests in one place! And on November 15, we’ll be praying…
