The song by The Afters “Light Up the Sky” has become one of the new themes for my family. It is a humble plea for God to show a sign, to reveal His faithfulness to ones in need. I don’t know about you, but I could definitely use a sign of God’s faithfulness, a sign of encouragement. Some days seem darker than others; and sometimes those dark days turn into weeks, and for some, months…. Do you need God to light up your sky in an act of encouragement to show you that things will be alright?
This week among many other things, I found out that a pastor friend of mine lost his 12 year old son. His son was in my youth group this past summer, where I got to know him pretty well. As you can imagine, that news falls on one like a ton of bricks, and weighs heavy on a person’s heart. But maybe for you, your ton of bricks has taken another form… Maybe for you, a relative’s test results came back negative, and you need to hear from God that it will be ok. Maybe your significant other just left you, and you are left holding the pieces of your heart. And you need to hear from God that it will be alright. Or maybe you are struggling financially and you have no idea how you are going to pay your bills, and you need to hear from God that things will work out. Then I pray that you will turn to God and ask Him humbly to light up your sky to show you that He is there, working in the midst of your life.
I have been praying this prayer all week as I have been struggling with all that is happening around me. As I was off for class the other morning, I stepped outside to go to my car and encountered the most beautiful sunrise. God was lighting up my sky, literally. I turned the car on, to hear that very song playing on the radio. I knew then that God was entering into my world, encouraging a confused me. May He do the same for you. God loves bringing His light to lighten up the darkness that sometimes feels like it will engulf us. “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” – Psalm 147:3 Ask God to light up your sky, enter your reality, so there is no denying that He is in control.
“Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart fail; but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” – Psalm 73:25-26
