“My Failure…”

I typically am pretty excited when my wife says, “I want you to listen to this song. This is how I’ve been feeling.”… I’m thinking, ok cool, its a song she thinks is great, one that speaks to her, or something she wants to encourage me with. Then I listened to the song. Wow… not what I was thinking…

The song is called “Lead Me” by Sanctus Real. It is about a wife saying to her husband, “Lead me with strong hands. Stand up when I can’t. Don’t leave me hungry for love. Chasing dreams, what about us? Show me you’re willing to fight, That I’m still the love of your life. I know we call this our home, But I still feel alone” Now I’m not going to lie, hearing these lyrics stung a little, especially since MY wife is telling me this is how she feels. Then the next verse played. This time, its the kids saying the same thing. They need daddy to pay attention to them, be there for them. At this point in the song, my pride has vanished. Though my wife and daughters have not put it in so many words, I still felt God telling me its time to be a better husband and father. Its time to make time for them. Its time to be the clear spiritual leader of my family… But I can’t do it alone.

Even the guys at Sanctus Real realized they can’t do it alone either. It is not an easy burden to be the head of a family. It is not easy being a Godly person in a culture that is distant from God. Its not easy to keep one’s integrity in the midst of such of a self-oriented society. We need God’s strength to be the people He has called us to be, in the roles He calls us to fulfill. I have been called to be a husband, father, student, pastor, blogger. There is no way I can stand for Him in these roles without His strength.

God has a role for you that He didn’t plan for you to fulfill only half way. He wants you to step up, take a stand, lead well, be the example in whatever situation you find yourself in. Don’t be afraid to admit that you might have failed in the past, or even in the present. But from now on, work with God to be the best _________ He created you to be.

Husbands, go all out in love for your wives. Don’t take advantage of them.” – Colossians 3:19 The Message

Consider this, in order to fulfill your role, you need to know who you are, what defines you. Check out this video that I did about what defines you as you… http://www.thepursuitblog.com/?p=276
